Directions

Ension’s Pittsburgh-based facilities are located in Harmar, Pennsylvania. Directions are provided below. Ension, Inc. is located on Gulf Lab Road immediately off the Harmarville/RT 910 exit of Route 28.

From Downtown Pittsburgh

  1. Go to the Northside and get on Route 28 North (near the Heinz plant), continue north on Route 28 for approximately 12 miles, past Millvale and the Highland Park Bridge.
  2. Get off Route 28 at Exit 11 - Harmarville exit (this also is the exit for the PA Turnpike - Route 76).
  3. At the bottom of the exit ramp, the exit ramp is a "Y". Stay to the left. In front of you are 4 lanes of Route 910 and directly on the other side is Gulf Lab Road. There is a large blue U-Parc sign that has an arrow that points to Gulf Lab Road. Cross Rte. 910 and proceed onto Gulf Lab Road.

From Oakland section of Pittsburgh

  1. Go out 5th Avenue to Mellon Park. Go straight through light onto Washington Blvd. Go length of Washington Blvd. At "T", turn left and follow signs to Highland Park Bridge and Route 8 North.
  2. Go over the Highland Park Bridge and get on Route 28 North, continue north on Route 28 for approximately 6 miles. Take Exit 11 - the Harmarville exit (this also is the exit for the PA Turnpike - Route 76).
  3. At the bottom of the exit ramp, the exit ramp is a "Y". Stay to the left. In front of you are 4 lanes of Route 910 and directly on the other side is Gulf Lab Road. There is a large blue U-Parc sign that has an arrow that points to Gulf Lab Road. Cross Rte. 910 and proceed onto Gulf Lab Road.

From Pittsburgh International Airport

  1. Total distance from airport 25 miles, travel time (non-rush hour) equal to 30 - 35 minutes. Rush hour equal to 1 hour.
  2. Upon leaving the airport, get on Route 60/376 toward Pittsburgh. Follow Route 376 (Pittsburgh) ~ 8 miles into the Fort Pitt Tunnel.
  3. As you get near the city, you will go down a long hill with Fort Pitt Tunnels in front of you. Get in the left lane as you go through the tunnels.
  4. When you exit the tunnels, the city will be on your right, keep in the EXTREME left hand lane and follow the signs for Route 279 North.
  5. After you go over the rivers, follow the road to the right and you pass "PNC Park" – our baseball stadium. Immediately past PNC Park, take Exit 7C for Route 28 North.
  6. Follow Route 28 North for 11 miles to Exit 11 (Harmarville and Route 910). This also is the exit for the PA Turnpike – Route 76).
  7. At the bottom of the exit ramp the ramp is a "Y". Stay to the left side of the "Y". In front of you are 4 lanes of Route 910 and directly on the other side is Gulf Lab Road. You want to go onto Gulf Lab Road by crossing Rt. 910. The large blue U-PARC sign has an arrow that points to Gulf Lab Road. Cross Rte. 910, to Gulf Lab Road and proceed up the hill.
  8. Now refer to the following Directions Part B - later in this section.

From Wexford and the West

  1. Get on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and go East (toward Harrisburg) Interstate 76 east.
  2. Get off at Exit 48 - Allegheny Valley.
  3. After you pass the tollbooth, follow the signs to Pittsburgh. This puts you on Freeport Road.
  4. Go 4 traffic signal lights to Route 910 (~ 1/2 mile).
  5. Turn right on Route 910 and turn at the 2nd right onto Gulf Lab Road. (If you go under the Route 28 underpass, you went too far.) Get on Gulf Lab Road and go up the small hill.
  6. Now refer to the following Directions Part B - later in this section.

From Harrisburg, Monroeville and the East

  1. Get on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and go West (toward Pittsburgh or Ohio) Route 76W.
  2. Get off at Exit 48 - Allegheny Valley.
  3. After you pass the tollbooth, follow the signs to Pittsburgh. This puts you on Freeport Road.

Directions Part B - From Gulf Lab Road

  1. 1/2 mile on Gulf Lab Road, the UPARC research complex is on the left. Follow the signs to Gate "C", and park in the visitor parking lot near Gate C. Go to the security guard in the small one story building outside this visitor parking lot and sign-in.
  2. Security will call Ension and someone will meet you to escort you to our facility.

Directions from Ension to Pittsburgh International Airport

  1. Out of Ension’s parking lot, turn right. Go 3/4 mile to bottom of hill and turn right onto RT 910. Go under the Rt. 28 underpass and take the first exit onto Rte. 28 South.
  2. Take Rt. 28 South for 11 miles to the north shore of downtown Pittsburgh. As you enter the north shore, a HJ Heinz plant will be on your left.
  3. Immediately across from the HJ Heinz plant is an exit. Take exit for Route 279
  4. Stay in the left lane and go to the second light, make a left onto Rte.279 South.
  5. Tricky Part: You will now see "Airport" signs. Follow the "Airport" signs across the two bridges (one bridge is right after the other). On the 1st bridge you will need to get into the right lanes. One the 2nd bridge, stay in the left lanes.
  6. You will now go through the Fort Pitt tunnel.
  7. Stay straight on Route 279 South/Route 60 West for approx. 15 milesto the airport. Follow the signs for Route 60 North to the Airport.
